La Roca News – February 2012

Greetings and as you may know January of 2012 marked La Roca’s sixteenth year of proclaiming the goodness of God and serving the poor in Tijuana Mexico. God’s people again showed their commitment to God’s mission, and friends like you contributed to our work through your prayers, gift, and encouraging letters. Even though of the worldwide economic uncertainty, you helped us under the Lord’s providence, to sustain and increase our outreach to the lost and devastated. We deeply appreciate your willingness to stand with us.

I have exciting news on our progress of the funds to buy the church building! As of January we have raised $48,000.00, with 17 months left and still needing to raise another $171,000.00 dollars. Remember all things are possible with our Lord Jesus Christ.

So, please continue to keep us in your prayers and the Lords blessing upon us during this critical point in our history, for our efforts are pointless without God’s approval. As the founder of the La Roca Ministries, I have to be convinced that the money you send to us is spent in an efficient and effective way, the way God would approve of! I feel that we are translating your gifts into helping and making disciples for Jesus Christ from the poorest of the poor, and part of that confirmation comes also from letters and emails I continue to receive from many that have come with us. “My life has not been the same since coming down with you…” Thanks!

This year we are going all out in reaching the Zona Norte, we have brought in our big guns, like Rudy and his wife Sofia and Rosalina which is our main teacher for our small groups at the old dump and women’s studies. The women’s outreach at the shelter continues to grow as the word gets out that they are allowed to shower and get a clean change of clothes! It’s surprising to see so many women homeless of all ages, but especially those who are senior’s citizens with nowhere to go.

There is one woman that shows up all the time, her name is Christina and she loves to sit behind the pulpit. She lives in the streets and almost everybody knows her. She smells quite bad and you know when she walks in, to the point that a few have requested for her to stop coming, but Rosalina said no, we welcome all and nobody is turned away!

That is why we call it the ministry of Grace; we must learn to love one another regardless of the looks and smells! Sometimes when small groups are formed, they become like a club of just believers. Can I challenge you to be the ice breaker, go to those who are new, to those who smell or stand out. Please do not forget we are the church. We do not go to church, because we are the church! Got it!

Andres and his wife Rosa has taken over the leadership at the discipleship ranch. Andres has been with us 14 years out of the 16 years severing, we could not have somebody more qualified. We have 24 men, plus the staff. Please continue to pray For Andres and family as they serve with all their hearts!

Another area that we are having a hard time keeping up with the growth is the orphanage. We have 34 kids plus staff and we are half way done with the explanation of the boy’s room. We need anybody that knows how to build and some cash to get the job done. We need bunk beds; shelf’s and so on, so would you please consider helping us and the children have more space.

The men’s shelter continues to grow to the point that some men are sleeping outside with just a tent over then. And as you see in the picture, the hall way is full all the way to the door. But since we are the cleanness and the strongest point is how we treat all with the Love of Christ many prefer to be with us than anywhere else. So would you consider helping us finish the upstairs, where we are about 80% done and almost ready to move the shelter upstairs? This will give us the flexibility we need for the church and the youth group and all the other outreaches we have more freedom to do more ministry, having the shelter have its own space.

So again we want to thank you for making 2011 a successful year and for allowing us to start 2012 with high expectations! Thanks for being part of the La Roca family as we serve the Lord together!

Christmas: Hurting people, without food, beds and blankets

As the first storm came in and seeing the sky become dark, I could not help but wonder?

How many houses will be brought down by the rains? how many roofs would collapse? how many bedrooms would become rivers and how many houses would be destroyed by mud slides?

How many children will find themselves in a pond of mud?

As I walked though the old dump site, knowing that many would be without food and without a roof, I saw what I had expected!

Hurting people, without food, beds and blankets wet from the rains with muddy floors! Not much of a Christmas for them!

As I went from house to house taking them food, the children were happy to get something to eat, even though their desire was a shining little car or doll. But because of the lack of gifts, food was it!

We also fed one hundred men at the shelter, what a joy!

So, long after Christmas morning when the paper is swept away and the tree is stripped and recycled, we hope you will still remember us.

Thanks again for keeping us close to your hearts and your prayers throughout the year. Thanks for allowing us to bring relief to those who are hurting just a stone throw away!

La Roca team desires you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years!

Welcome Back To La Roca, Tijuana & Rosarito

La Roca Church Home

La Roca Church Home

As time has gone by we see more people coming back to Tijuana and Rosarito. The police no longer patrol in groups of four, but have gone back to normal! The news media has taking their focus of the drug war to something else. So I feel with confidence to invite all to come and help us with the so much work that needs to be done!
For those who like to build, we have the family housing for families who are struggling with addiction and struggling to keep their family together! We have the solution: our discipleship ranch where we will provide housing for the families and bring healing to those who are being torn apart!

The new church building also has so much work left, the rainy season is coming and we need a new roof, it will cost anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 dollars. We need electrical, plumping, carpentry and so much more. We could desperately need your help! Or just let us know what you have to offer and we can use you in the many areas, Like the House of Grace, Discipleship ranch, men’s shelter, our outreaches, our kids club’s and so much more. Would you take the time to pray and see in what area God could use you!

Thanks a million and may the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Oh Father, awaken us from our deep sleep of fear and comfort !!!

Greeting Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We are in the final months of 2009! Where has the time gone? Time has goes by so fast that we are now getting ready for our Thanksgiving celebration and of course Christmas which is just around the corner!
Please pray that this Thanksgiving God opens the doors to be able to serve the Tijuana Police. A meal of Thanksgiving and support for their braveness and their work and sacrifice!

Some have said that might put us in danger! So! But it’s the right thing to do, 36 police officers have died in the line to duty.

In the same manner, many have said. If we go to Muslins countries, we would be putting our self’s in danger! So! It’s our orders from our commander and chief, to go to all nations preaching the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Wedding Day: Andes & Rosa

Greetings to all and hope all are standing strong in the Lord. Here are some pictures of our dear brother Andes and his wife Rosa. They were married two months ago and sorry for taking so long in sharing this great news!

It was a great day for the church, celebrating this long awaited day. Andes has been praying for somebody as Rosa. She is a women of prayer and is willing to serve along side of Andes and serve the Lord with all her heart. Rosa has moved to the ranch with Andes and has become part of the staff.

We are waiting to strengthen the staff, so we could in the near future have a women recovery program as we do for the men. We see all this coming into play and it’s exciting to see how the Lord continues to work among us. Please pray for Andres and his wife Rosa so that they may make the proper changes and adjustments for this new challenge in their lives.

Again we Thank You and we appreciate you more than words could express. That’s one reason that its great being a small ministry. That each one of you are truly family. We know your name and not just another face.
