November 2019 Newsletter
Greetings to all and a Happy Thanksgiving!
It is a urgent time for prayer for those in need and for Rossy and Olga who are south Mexico on a mission trip.
We have La Roca family members from a high mountain community named Mexitlan, Oaxaca located in south Mexico. We make a trip to this remote village community at least once a year to keep these loved ones in our ministry loop.
As we write this November newsletter, Rossy and Olga are in Mexitlan, for a week ministering to those in need at this isolated community. It is located up a mountain 5 hours from the closest city. There are not local Mexican police in this small isolated area, instead, local groups compete for control of the region. Right now, there is high tension between these groups. Men with machetes control the roads into Mexitlan where Rossy and Olga are staying.
It was not easy getting in, but the word was sent to all the road blocks to let them pass! There is shortage of food for the kids at school because of this blockage! People are out, not with guns or rifles, but machetes. Nobody gets thought without a clearance from the leaders! Please pray for them both and the much needed relief they bring to this community!
It is official! We finally opened our Sonora Mission as we reported, just before entering into the busiest time of the year. Finally, after a year and a half, and many hours of hard work, and many miles traveled, up to 16 hours for a one way trip!
We give thanks to God for keeping us safe in many round trips and for vehicles with no break downs and no one getting sick! In each trip we took new disciples to bring awareness of the work and the mission which we have been called to do!
But with all this being said, we had to move the opening date by two weeks since we did fall a little behind, but it was worth the wait! We had at least 175 people in attendance including local pastors checking us out! We were glad to meet with them after the opening and invited them to work with us. Some even said we beat them in accomplishing this mission, some said this was in their mind for over eight years. But they gave Glory to God that it was finally done. God had answered their prayers and needs!
Our temporary shelter for those traveling through our two small Towns in Sonora, is now open! The local bus has only two departures per day. Sometimes people have to wait a couple of more hours for the second bus to come in the burning heat of the Sonora desert! If you miss them both, you are stuck till the next day with no place to sleep. Many have stayed in the streets with their families waiting till morning! Sometimes the buses coming down from the mountains are already full with no more room for people waiting. Our temporary shelter will bring much relief to those traveling to the city and back!
We also opened up our feeding program for the children. Our community is made of two towns about 12 minutes apart by car. Pastor Jesus uses his truck to bring the children from his town to eat, attend bible studies and activities!
The first day we only had about twelve children but after the first week we are up to thirty! It will grow rapidly as the word gets out! In our Last newsletter we mentioned our urgent need for a van. Here is one of the reasons! Please remember, a van is needed for Sonora! It is still an urgent need!
Here, at La Roca Ministries, we believe all those created new in Christ Jesus need a solid foundation and a solid home base for support before sending people out to others! So, when we send a person, they can focus on the task which they were sent out to do! They Know they are prepared and we have their back covered in prayer and support! Just like you have done with me for all these years!
Preparation for sending people out is fundamental and vital to our vision. This is one of the reasons our seminary school at Sonora is so important. We are focused on building and equipping disciples for the work which is at hand! We can’t do it alone, we need others to help in all the areas around us!
Itzel is our full time missionary living here to accomplish this great task. Pastor Efren and team will be traveling 5 to 7 trips per year to support Itzel. So please keep us in your prayers as we take on this great task before us! God would have not given it to us to do unless we were ready!
I hope we have shown our faithfulness to God’s calling to all of you. We don’t look back, but we press forward to the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus. Some have said, you can’t save everybody nor can you help everybody! But this is a cop-out! We prefer to look at it this way, we will continue to reach to as many people with the Gospel till our Lords comes and we will help those who are in desperate situations as long as God continues giving us strength and the means!
And last but not least, our faithful servant Miguel has been with us 4 years! He was living at the dump and was transformed by God’s Truth! Miguel had not been in touch with his family for over twenty years. He was able reached out to them only to learn his mom had passed away. His father, however, is anxious to see him so Miguel so going to be able to join back up with his family. We are going to miss him, please pray for Miguel as takes the light of God to his family.
During this season of gratefulness and giving, please keep us in mind as we will continue to be an expression of your love and generosity! We can’t continue growing and sustaining our present ministry without your generosity and prayer!
So, from all of us here in Tijuana, Sonora and Oaxaca! Have a Happy and meaningful Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas!
“Thank you Lord, for what you have done in our hearts and this ministry as well as what you are continuing to do. Amen”
Carlos and Rossy and your Ministry team at La Roca Ministries.
